thehorsesmouth.com is a blog chronicling the on-going development of an exciting new online venture called horsesmouth.co.uk.
Currently in beta, horsesmouth.co.uk, is a social network with a social purpose. Designed to enable users to give and gain support and inspiration from each other’s life experiences in a secure online environment, its vision is to scale up the transformational effects of mentoring. It is a real example of how web 2.0 technology is beginning to revolutionise the public sphere.
If eBay is about the stuff you’ve got locked up in the attic that others may value, then horsesmouth is about all the stuff you’ve got locked up in your head and heart. It is certainly valuable to other people faced with the same choices and challenges, and in the great leveller of life, everyone has something to give and gain here. That’s why we call our community the “wisdomocracy”.
horsesmouth is not designed to replace professional advice sites or Community Forums but offers the next level of contact – i.e. ongoing one-to-one online communication with real profiled people who have “been there done that” and are willing to help. The site has many of the fun features of the big popular social networking sites (search / profiling / reputation systems / publishing etc) and it adds a few more ‘cool tools’ unique to the idea of mentoring and giving time.
Set up as a CIC, horsesmouth.co.uk is currently funded by Edge, the foundation for raising the status of practical learning with match funding from v, the youth volunteering charity.
